Vikings vs. Saints: Brett Favre’s Hometown Divided

Posted on January 24, 2010

As the New Orleans Saints prepare to host the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Title Game, Brett Favre's hometown remains divided over its rooting interest. Kiln, Mississippi is very much in the heart of Saints Country but the Viking quarterback's influence on the area is still substantial with relatives, including his mom and sister, still living there.

Full transcript below:

Kiln, Mississippi resident:

The Broke Spoke is something that you never see no where else but here, in Kiln, Mississippi.

Steve Haas, Broke Spoke Owner:

15, 16 years ago one girl come in here one night. A bartender was working. She asked if she could put her bra on the ceiling. He said, 'Sure.' She put her bra on the ceiling and ever since then, everybody's been putting them up there. Kind of just caught on, I guess.

Kiln resident:

We hope that the Saints go all the way but if Brett (Favre) goes all the way we're happy with that too.

Kiln resident:

I know I have to pull for Brett and the Vikings.

Kiln resident:

I mean it's hard to really make a choice.

Kiln resident:

I just can't go against the Saints.

Dan Sheldon:

Brandi (Favre)'s been kind of keeping you on the straight and narrow, hasn't she?

Haas:

Oh yeah, Brandi's been asking me this question for 2 months or 3 months.

Brandi Favre, Brett Favre's sister:

I think probably the 4th game of the season, I was here.

Haas:

'If the Saints and Minnesota wind up in the NFC Championship Game, who are you going to pull for?'

Brandi Favre:

And I went around the bar and made everybody answer that day. And I said, "I'm holding you to it."

Haas:

I said, "Brandi, you know I'm pulling for Brett." 'Are you really or are you just lying to me?' I said, "I wouldn't lie to you."

Kiln resident:

Are we going to be sad if the Saints don't make it? Yes, we will.

Dan Sheldon:

I was talking to Bonita (Favre) last night. She said the Saints could do it next year, no big deal.

Bonita Favre, Brett Favre's mother:

They've been waiting 42 years, what's one more year? Brett doesn't have the... you know, he needs to get it over with and get it done. They can wait another year.

Kiln resident:

Deep in my heart I'm for Brett because he's 40 years old and I want to see him go to a Super Bowl again.

Kiln resident:

One more Super Bowl for him.

Bonita Favre:

Everybody's wanting to know where our Fountain of Youth is. They want me to share it. I say, "Well, he ain't shared it with me yet, either."

Minnesota resident:

Best quarterback the Vikings have ever had. That's to you, Fran Tarkenton.

Dan Sheldon:

How are you going to reconcile thoughout the course of the game with what happens?

Kiln resident:

We're going to drink, drink, drink. Welcome to Mississippi. Owwwww.

Dan Sheldon:

What do you think of this place after hearing so much over the years about it?

Minnesota resident:

I know why Brett fit in Wisconsin so well. It's exactly the same.
