Funniest SNL Monologue of All Time
Perhaps an overstatement and an unsupportable claim since I haven't seen every monologue in the show's history but Zach Galifianakis delivers the goods in a big way in his Saturday Night Live monologue. His comic abilities also managed to wipe clean the worst cold open in television history immediately prior to his entrance. There was a time when this show led the way when it came to political satire, but I digress.
The rest of the program doesn't sustain the monologue's momentum but that doesn't detract from this 7 minutes of solid entertainment.
I was going to compare it to one of my fonder memories of SNL from almost 20 years ago. Then I re-watched Steve Martin's opening song from 1991 and, while I still appreciate it in the context of the era, it doesn't truly stand the test of time. Still, there's no denying the stable of talent involved in the production which makes it worth viewing again just for nostalgia's sake.
