The innocuous question of how former Stanford and Pitt head coach Walt Harris ended up at California Universtiy of Pennsylvania turns awkward... when a death in the coaching ranks leads to Harris's new job as offensive coordinator. As told to Stan and Guy on 1250 AM in Pittsburgh.

"I had known Mike Jacobs who was (head coach John Luckhardt's) coordinator this past year and he and I had coached together at Ohio State and he got ill...
...and the worst case scenario happened, in terms of Mike. He ended up passing away last Thursday. That changed my responsibility to being a full fledged coordinator."

It also turns out that after unsuccessful stints at Florida and Maryland, Josh Portis is settling in nicely in Division 2.

"Right now we have a starting quarterback who was not in spring practice who is an outstanding football player and a joy to be around. Very blessed with talent and has played extremely well. Led us to the semifinals. His name is Josh Portis. So, we're really looking forward to working with him."

Is it a mere coincidence that both Harris and Portis are from the actual state of California or is there some sort of Jedi mind trick applied to those the school recruits from the Golden State?

They are the "Vulcans" after all.
