LeBron James leaving would be “like a nuclear bomb hitting” Cleveland

Posted on May 12, 2010

In the wake of what could have been his final home game in a Cavaliers' uniform... the team's beat writer uses drastic terms to describe the aftermath if LeBron James were to decide to take his "savior" routine out of Cleveland.

Brian Windhorst, Cavs beat writer for the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, on the Dan Patrick radio show:

"I wish I had a better analogy for it but if he does do that it will be like a nuclear bomb hitting here because number one, the city will be devastated on many, many fronts: emotionally, physically, infrastructurally, and LeBron himself will be radioactive in his hometown. And that's one thing LeBron does know if he does it because he has been here. He saw what happened to Art Modell and he realizes it'll be just as bad."

This after Windhorst describes James as "emotionally checked out" of this matchup with the Celtics.

Whether it's his elbow or something else ailing him, something is physically holding him back aside from the ugliness that Mike Brown would refer to as "offensive sets."

Windhorst doesn't believe James will ultimately leave. It would seem like a proper prediction regardless of the outcome in this series.

This team doesn't need wholesale changes, it needs someone with a mind for offense whether that means losing the head coach or having him agree to bring someone in who can turn James into a playmaker instead of a 1 on 5 kamikaze.
