Isiah Thomas: I want LeBron James to go to New York

Posted on May 14, 2010

The deposed former leader of the New York Knicks franchise doesn't seem to hold a grudge... at least in this matter.

The now head basketball coach at Florida International University tells AM 790 in Miami:

"I hope and my heart says I want him to go to New York because I love Jim Dolan. I think he's one of the best owners in sport. I think he gives the resources, gives the players everything they want, and I hope he goes to New York.

But if he stays in Cleveland, that wouldn't disappoint me either because I do think there's something to be said for winning a championship in your hometown and staying with the team that drafted you. And winning it for the team that drafted you.

I never left Detroit. I didn't want to go join the Celtics. I didn't want to go join the Lakers. I wanted to beat the Celtics and the Lakers. That's what drove me."
