Paul Silas: LeBron James does not have a Killer Instinct
LeBron James's first NBA coach believes he possesses a lot of traits, except one...
Prospective LBJ destination cities are not only handicapping the possibility of him landing in their town but quizzing whoever they can find about LeBron's abilities to eventually win a championship.
The one trait in question for James, and every other great athlete yet to win a title, is that elusive and perhaps nebulous quality called "killer instinct."
Whatever it means, real or imaginary, Paul Silas doesn't think his former pupil possesses it and says so to Chicago radio station AM 1000:
"He's bigger than anybody that you've seen for his size that can run fast and jump high and dribble the ball and take it to the hoop. Now he's developed an outside shot. But he does not have the killer instinct because he didn't need it. I think Mike (Jordan) because of his size, Kobe (Bryant) because of his size, they needed to have this in order to be successful and I mean overly successful. LeBron didn't and I think that's the reason that it has not come about.
I used to ask people, 'Do you think you could teach that?' Because I wanted to know if it was something that I could do to instill that in him and they said, 'No, you're either born with it or you're not.'"
