Golden Tate’s Love of Taylor Swift goes beyond the Music

"In my dreams, she would be the best girlfriend I think."...
The video of Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate singing a Taylor Swift song at a rookie NFL playing card shoot has already been out there a few days, but there is a personal relationship behind his off key affection for the country music star.
As told to the Kevin Calabro radio show on 710 AM in Seattle:
"Part of it is, I know her family. Mr. Swift is close to my family. He actually kind of mentored me through this whole process of getting drafted and the combine so he's been there for me. But she makes really great music. I don't know what it is."
Taylor Swift's dad mentored Golden Tate? Uh, I think you need to go through the back story on that one, Golden.
"I was in college my junior year and I don't know why he wanted to come visit the Notre Dame football team after the year we were having but they come to check out campus because her younger brother is actually going to Notre Dame. He's going to be a part of the Notre Dame family next year. And so they just happened to be looking at the school. So what I did was before practice I went up and introduced myself and I was like, 'I'm Golden. I'm actually from Hendersonville (Tennessee). And then her dad was like, 'Oh yeah you went to Pope (John Paul II High School). You played football. I came to see some games. You were a great player and blah, blah, blah.' And so I go, 'Well, thank you. Thank you. That means a lot to me.'"
From there, Tate uses his school connections to cultivate the relationship.
"So at that point I'm on my high horse, and her birthday comes around, so I call one of the (Notre Dame) personnel guys and I'm like, 'Hey can you get me her number someway so I can call and say happy birthday?' So he gave me her dad's number and from there we just developed a relationship that he's just been there for me anytime I need anything so he's been there."
And what about a relationship with Taylor?
"I don't think her dad would like that too much. Although, in my dreams, she would be the best girlfriend I think."
And if you think he's done singing Taylor Swift songs, you'd be sorely mistaken.
"I've got another video coming out. It's going to be me singing 'Our Song' instead. I'm a little better at that one."
Love is blind... and tone deaf.
