Phil Jackson Protects his Sideline Turf, Chris Rock Caught in Crossfire
The waning minutes of Game One get a much needed boost from a suddenly spry and lively Laker head coach...
I watched it a dozen times and, having spent some time myself manning an NBA sideline, still don't know exactly what aspect of the Chris Rock interview had Phil Jackson so upset. But it seemed clear that he was.
Doris Burke attempts a little back and forth banter with the comedian but gets interrupted by Jackson who is seen walking up to the two and yelling something at them. The broadcast crew claims he says, "Get your feet off my stage," but that doesn't necessarily clear anything up.
Is there a physical stage that Rock has his feet on that no one is previously aware of? Is he speaking metaphorically about Rock having his legs stretched out onto the court? Is it really the camera guy he's yelling at since he's much closer to the edge of the court than Rock? Is Phil hallucinating again?
So many questions and so few answers. Hopefully Game 2 gives us something more intriguing to think about.
The sidelines are a dangerous and largely thankless place. At best, you're a minor annoyance. At worst, you're Craig Sager.
By the way, that's me saying "That's messed up, yo," at the end of the clip. Twice for proper emphasis.
