"He's going to be..."
It's one thing for your run of the mill former jock/NBA analyst to predict Jimmer Fredette's draft potential this summer. It's another thing when an NBA executive with the power to pull the trigger makes the declaration.
Boston Celtics president Danny Ainge says he's watched every BYU basketball game live or on tape this season and that the biggest on campus phenom since... Ainge himself won't be waiting past pick number 30 on NBA Draft night.
Telling WEEI radio in Boston:
"Jimmer's a blast to watch."
Asked if Ainge was a better shooter:
"Definitely not. Jimmer is a terrific offensive player. He shoots deep. He scores in a variety of ways. He's a really fun guy to watch play because he's a throwback. I don't know who to compare him to. I haven't really seen a player like Jimmer for a long time."
"He's a point guard but he's a scorer. I think (Wednesday) night at one time, I'm not sure he ended up with any assists and 43 points."
"He's going to get opportunities. He's going to be a first round pick and I think his game will translate."
And, officially, the game just changed for those at the top of the 2nd round looking for Fredette to fall into their lap.
Jimmer's future agent thanks you, Danny.
